Project overview
TRIBOSYNC is an ERC Proof of Concept project hosted by the University of Bologna (2026–2028), aiming to develop a room-temperature coating technology based on tribosynthesis. By using mechanically activated chemical reactions to form protective carbon films directly at sliding interfaces, it seeks to reduce friction and wear while offering a more accessible, energy-efficient alternative to conventional coating deposition methods.
